The Outer Game – and the Quiet Power Within

“There is nothing more important to true growth than realising that you are not the voice of the mind - you are the one who hears it.”  -- Micheal A. Singer -- (The Untethered Soul)

While spending time working on a website and brand refresh, I can definitely say I’ve been deep in my Outer Game lately.

What do I mean by that?

The Outer Game is everything we do that the world can see - how we show up, how we perform, how we deliver, and how we present our success to others. It’s the visible part of achievement: the plans, goals, people, tools, deadlines, and results.

For years I’ve been reinventing myself. Many of you have walked beside me through those transitions - from skincare to fashion, to coaching. Reinvention has always been my way of staying relevant, curious, and alive to possibility. And yet, every time I’ve stepped into a new chapter, I’ve met the same familiar companion: my Inner Game.

During COVID I decided to build an online learning community, like many I needed to change the way I was working and I thought I was ready. I had the vision, the mentor, and the plan. What I didn’t expect was the noise inside my head - the voice that whispered “What are you doing and why are you doing this?”
My confidence dropped, my emotions took over, and perfectionism made every step feel heavier than it needed to be.

When I realised what was going on - it has stayed with me ever since: Whatever is going on inside will always show up on the outside.

We can have the best strategy, the right people, the smartest plan - but if our inner dialogue is clouded by fear, doubt, or exhaustion, our results will reflect that.

The Outer Game runs on energy and execution. The Inner Game runs on clarity, courage, and self-trust.
And while we often focus on the outer - because that’s where the results are measured - it’s the inner that determines whether we can sustain them.

When your Inner Game is out of balance, it shows up quietly. You start saying yes when you should say no. You lose the joy in things that once lit you up. You keep moving forward, but it feels like pushing through fog.
The truth is, you can’t out-perform what you haven’t yet made peace with inside.

The moment I stopped trying to silence that inner voice - and instead listened to it with compassion - it changed the way I approached things. I took one small step, then another. I gave myself permission to learn and not try to be perfect and continue to progress. And slowly the momentum returned.

So if your own Inner Game feels a little noisy right now, take this as your reminder:
Pause. Listen. Choose one small thing that helps you feel more grounded in yourself.

Because no amount of external achievement will ever quiet a restless inner world.
And when your inner and outer games finally align - you stop will striving to prove yourself and start moving forward with purpose.

Be brave enough to go for what you want, but gentle enough to care for the self that’s carrying you there.

Go Well
